basketball : a lesson in humility

Normally I’m not the tallest player on the team. Except here in the Philippines.

Even with that advantage, let’s just say I need practice.

I don’t know how the locals manage to play basketball so well and keep their flip flops on. Then there’s the issue of rocks in the middle of the dirt court. Rocks to trip on, rocks to get cut on, and rocks to make the ball bounce off in funny directions.

Here basketball is a betting sport — I think this day I lost someone some money.

Right outside my apartment is a well. With a very makeshift bucket. These two little kids with crumbs in their hair were collecting two buckets of water, with a watcher watching me.
